Governor Ahamdu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa state says the mass production of food in the state is as a result of fertile land for agricultural potentials that made it major driver of economy.
Governor Fintiri made this known at the distribution of 50 percent subsidy of fertilisers for the 2026 farming season and charged farmers to make effective use of the agricultural inputs warned against their sale, hoarding, or diversion.
He gave the warning on Monday during the official flag-off ceremony held at the Adamawa State Agricultural Mechanisation Authority in Yola, Saying the subsidised fertilisers were procured by the state government to support genuine farmers, improve agricultural productivity, and strengthen food security across the state.
The distributors and beneficiaries were warned that anyone found selling, hoarding, or diverting the fertilisers would face appropriate sanctions, stressing that the inputs were meant strictly for farming activities.
The Governor said, “The fertilisers are for farmers’ use and not for sale. They are intended to boost crop yields and improve food production across the state."
The exercise, Governor Fintiri officially launched the distribution of the fertilisers to the 21 Local Government Areas of Adamawa State and recognised farmers’ associations in the ongoing 2026 farming season.
He noted that, "Adamawa as a state blessed with vast fertile land and enormous agricultural potential, noting that farming remains one of the major drivers of the state’s economy."
The Governor further explained that the procurement of the subsidised fertilisers reflects his administration’s commitment to supporting farmers, increasing crop production, and ensuring adequate food availability for residents of the state and neighbouring communities.
He reaffirmed his administration’s determination to continue implementing policies and programmes aimed at strengthening the agricultural sector, improved farmers’ livelihoods, and promoting sustainable economic growth through agriculture.
