The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), in collaboration with the Cross River State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), has commenced a three-day Flood Preparedness and Simulation Exercise in Calabar

The three days exercise is aimed at strengthening disaster response, enhancing coordination among stakeholders, and improving community resilience against flooding.

Hon. (Chief) Ekuma Ngwu, JP, Vice Chairman of Biase Local Government Area and Chairman of the Local Emergency Management Committee (LEMC), Biase LGA, commended NEMA and SEMA for organizing the timely initiative.

He noted that the simulation exercise is a proactive step towards minimizing the devastating impact of floods on vulnerable communities across Cross River State, particularly in flood-prone local government areas such as Biase.

Hon. (Chief) Ekuma Ngwu, JP, emphasized the importance of preparedness, early warning systems, public awareness, and collaboration among government agencies, local authorities, traditional institutions, and community volunteers in mitigating flood-related disasters.

He urged residents to heed flood warnings, avoid building on waterways and drainage channels, and cooperate with emergency responders before, during, and after flood incidents. He further reaffirmed the commitment of the Biase Local Government Council and the Local Emergency Management Committee to supporting disaster risk reduction initiatives and ensuring the safety of lives and property.

The three-day exercise is expected to equip emergency responders and community stakeholders with practical skills in flood response, evacuation procedures, search and rescue operations, and coordinated emergency management
