Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu, has flagged off the construction and upgrading of additional township roads in four communities in Birnin Kebbi, the state capital, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to improving road infrastructure, enhancing connectivity and facilitating the movement of people, goods and services.
The projects cover three kilometres of road in Aliero Estate, 1.6 kilometres in Bayan Azbir, three kilometres in Bayan Taxaco, and the upgrading of the road linking the Police Station to Nagari College.
Speaking during the flag-off ceremonies at the various locations on Tuesday, Governor Idris described the projects as a fulfilment of his administration’s promises to the people, assuring residents that his government would continue to deliver development projects that directly address their needs and improve their quality of life.
The Governor expressed gratitude to Almighty Allah for the opportunity to witness the commencement of the projects and commended the people for their patience, understanding and continued support. He also acknowledged that some individuals had previously expressed doubts about the government’s ability to execute the projects.
“Promise made, promise fulfilled. We have said it, and you people have been very patient. I know there are some people who said that this road would not be executed by Kaura. Today, you can attest to the fact that we are flagging off the project,” he said.
Governor Idris assured residents that the projects were part of his administration’s broader infrastructure development programme, stressing that the government would sustain its commitment to projects that improve living conditions, promote economic activities and enhance the overall development of the state.
“The name that has been given to me, the architect of modern Kebbi, has come to stay,” the Governor declared while formally flagging off the construction of the three-kilometre asphalt road in Aliero Quarters.
He also acknowledged the contributions of the contractors handling the projects, including Habibu Engineering, ABK Synergy Construction Company and New Horizon Construction Company, expressing confidence in their capacity to deliver quality infrastructure that would stand the test of time and serve the needs of the benefiting communities.
In his remarks, the Honourable Commissioner for Works, Engr. Abdullahi Umar Muslim, described Governor Idris as a hardworking and development-oriented leader whose commitment to fulfilling promises was demonstrated through the execution of tangible projects across the state.
The Commissioner explained that the road projects were among the 12 projects recently approved by the Governor, noting that some had already been flagged off, while others were scheduled to commence as part of the administration’s sustained infrastructure development drive.
He said the government remained focused on translating its commitments into practical results rather than relying on rhetoric, adding that the contractors had demonstrated their readiness to execute the projects.
According to him, clearance work had already commenced on two of the three roads in Aliero Quarters, expressing optimism that the contractor would complete the assignment within three months.
Engr. Muslim assured the Governor and residents that the Ministry of Works would closely monitor the projects to ensure adherence to approved standards, quality specifications and stipulated timelines.
The projects are expected to improve accessibility within the beneficiary communities, ease transportation challenges, facilitate the movement of goods and services, and strengthen the urban road network of Birnin Kebbi, thereby contributing to socioeconomic development and improved living conditions for residents.
The flag-off ceremonies attracted traditional rulers, community leaders, elders, government officials and other stakeholders, who expressed appreciation to the Kebbi State Government for extending infrastructure development to their communities.
