Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris, has called on the management of the newly established Lead FM 91.1, Birnin Kebbi, to remain independent and ensure that the station is not hijacked by politicians for selfish interests.

The Governor made the call on Monday while commissioning Lead FM 91.1 at Patrick Aziza Road, Birnin Kebbi.

He noted that electronic media remained one of the most effective means of reaching people in rural communities and communicating government policies and programmes directly to them.

Governor Idris stressed the commitment of his administration to maintaining and strengthening its partnership with media organisations in the state, noting that the media plays an important role in informing the public about government activities and programmes.

He commended the Managing Director and proprietor of the station for the initiative, describing it as a welcome development for Kebbi State.

“I commend the efforts of the MD and his team for this initiative. We know what you can do, and you have brought something better to the state. We thank you, and may God bless you,” the Governor said.

Also speaking at the occasion, former Kebbi State Governor and Senator representing Kebbi Central, Senator Adamu Aliero, commended the proprietor of the station for the initiative and urged him to sustain the good work.

He said the new radio station would contribute to development and promote humanity, while also fostering unity among political leaders and stakeholders.

The Emir of Argungu, Alhaji Mohammed Isma’ila Mera, who was the royal father of the occasion, also commended the proprietor and management of the station for establishing the new broadcast platform.

The Emir described information as power and urged members of the public to be conscious of the type of information they disseminate.

In his goodwill message, the Kebbi State Commissioner of Police, CP Umar Hadija, called for greater collaboration between the media and security agencies.

He urged the station to devote adequate attention to crime prevention, public enlightenment and security-related programmes.

“We urge the media house to focus on crime prevention, enlightenment and security-related content and programmes,” he admonished.

Earlier, the Chairman of the newly established Lead FM 91.1 Shuaibu Mungadi, said the station was established with a strong commitment to crime-watch broadcasting.

He explained that the mission of the station was to use the media as a tool for public enlightenment, accountability and nation-building.

According to him, the vision of the station is anchored on the understanding that society is dynamic and that the media must continuously evolve and adjust its focus to meet the changing needs of the communities it serves.

In his remarks, the Managing Director of Lead FM 91.1, Dahiru Hadsan Kera, said the station was established as a platform to educate, inform, empower and inspire communities through responsible broadcasting.
