The Kebbi State Government has condemned the recent violence and destruction reported in parts of Jega Local Government Area, describing the incident as unacceptable and urging security agencies to thoroughly investigate the circumstances surrounding the unrest and bring anyone found culpable to justice, irrespective of political affiliation or status.

The government expressed concern over the violent acts exhibited during the politically motivated incident.

In a statement issued on Sunday by the Special Adviser on Communication and Strategy to the Governor, Abdullahi Idris Sadaukin Zuru, the government noted that while it recognises the genuine security concerns confronting many states across the country, insecurity should not become a pretext for violence, destruction of property, or attacks on individuals and political organisations.

The state government, therefore, called on all political parties, their supporters, community leaders and other stakeholders to exercise restraint and avoid actions or statements capable of escalating tension.

It stressed that political differences should be resolved through dialogue, lawful democratic processes and peaceful engagement rather than confrontation.

The government commended security agencies, traditional institutions and community leaders for their efforts to restore calm and protect lives and property.

It also urged relevant authorities to conduct a transparent investigation into the Jega incident.

The government reiterated that the protection of lives and property remains a collective responsibility, adding that no political party, group or individual should encourage, sponsor or participate in acts capable of undermining public peace and security.

According to the statement, the administration of Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu, remains committed to the socio-economic development of Kebbi State and will continue to implement programmes and projects across the state while working with security agencies and communities to safeguard peace for sustainable development.

The state government sympathised with residents who suffered losses during the incident and assured them that their concerns would continue to receive the attention of relevant authorities.

It called on all citizens to reject violence, avoid inflammatory rhetoric and work together to preserve peace, security and democratic participation across the state.

It also warned that viable and impactful socio-economic development programmes and projects would not be allowed to be destroyed through politically motivated violence and thuggery, stressing that no individual, group or organisation can claim a monopoly of violence under any guise.

The government urged political parties, supporters, community leaders and stakeholders to exercise restraint and avoid inflammatory statements.

It further called on religious and community leaders to intensify prayers for peace and the need for peaceful coexistence among the multi-ethnic and religious communities in the state.
