The Leadership Newspaper Group has formally presented a notification letter for its prestigious 2026 Governor of the Year Award to the Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu, in recognition of his outstanding leadership, purposeful governance and remarkable achievements across critical sectors of development.

The notification letter was presented to the Governor in Abuja by the Group Managing Director of Leadership Newspapers, Alh. Muazu Elazeh, accompanied by the Director of Conferences, Mr. Abraham Nda-Isaiah, and the Director of Special Projects, Mr. Abdulmumin Balogun.

The presentation also served as a formal invitation to Governor Idris to attend the 2026 Leadership Annual Conference and Awards ceremony, scheduled for Tuesday, December 1, 2026, at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre, Abuja.

Speaking during the presentation, Mr. Elazeh disclosed that the award followed a rigorous assessment by the newspaper’s Board of Editors, which examined the Governor’s performance, policy direction and contributions to Kebbi State’s development since assuming office in May 2023.

He explained that Leadership Newspapers, consistent with its tradition of promoting accountability and recognising exemplary leadership, considered it necessary to honour individuals and institutions whose commitment to public service has translated into measurable development outcomes.

According to him, Governor Idris distinguished himself among the nominees through the remarkable implementation of his administration’s development agenda, particularly in infrastructure, healthcare, education, agriculture, workers’ welfare, social protection and human capital development.

The award notification letter described Governor Idris as a visionary, purposeful and people-oriented leader whose administration has recorded significant interventions in road construction, drainage infrastructure, transportation, public facilities, healthcare delivery, education, agricultural development and security.

It specifically acknowledged the administration’s investments in healthcare facilities, health insurance schemes, recruitment of teachers and healthcare personnel, renovation of schools, distribution of agricultural inputs, irrigation development and agricultural mechanisation.

The letter also commended the Governor’s commitment to workers’ welfare, social protection and human capital development, particularly the prompt payment of workers’ salaries and sustained efforts towards addressing pension and gratuity obligations to retirees.

Responding, Governor Nasir Idris expressed profound appreciation to Leadership Newspapers for the recognition, describing the honour as a significant milestone and an encouraging endorsement of his administration’s commitment to improving the lives of the people of Kebbi State.

The Governor said he was particularly encouraged that the newspaper had closely followed, assessed and evaluated the activities of his administration before arriving at the decision to recognise his leadership with such a prestigious award.

He assured the Leadership Newspaper Group of his personal attendance at the ceremony, by the grace of Almighty Allah, and pledged the support of his administration towards ensuring a successful and memorable event.

Governor Idris reaffirmed his determination to sustain the administration’s people-oriented policies and programmes, emphasising that agriculture, education, healthcare, infrastructure, employment generation and workers’ welfare would remain central to his development agenda.

Highlighting some of the administration’s achievements, the Governor mentioned the provision of free education, distribution of agricultural inputs and equipment to farmers at no cost, recruitment of thousands of teachers and healthcare workers, as well as the payment of tuition fees and stipends to Kebbi students studying in tertiary institutions within and outside the country.

He further disclosed that his administration had undertaken extensive renovation and rehabilitation of general hospitals and primary healthcare centres, alongside the construction and rehabilitation of schools and other critical public infrastructure across the state.

On workers’ welfare, the Governor emphasised his administration’s commitment to improving the conditions of service of civil servants and retirees through the prompt payment of salaries, settlement of pension and gratuity obligations, and initiatives designed to improve workers’ access to affordable housing.

Reflecting on his emergence as Governor, Dr. Idris described his journey to leadership as an act of divine providence, noting that his professional background as a teacher and his experience as a labour leader had continued to shape his philosophy of governance.

He maintained that his administration’s approach to leadership would remain anchored on compassion, inclusiveness, accountability and the conviction that government must exist primarily to serve the people.

The Governor stressed that the recognition would further inspire him and his team to intensify their efforts towards delivering sustainable development and improving the living conditions of citizens across the 21 local government areas of Kebbi State.

He also noted that the honour was not merely a personal achievement but a recognition of the collective efforts of the people of Kebbi State, members of his administration and all stakeholders contributing to the state’s development.

Earlier, the Kebbi State Commissioner for Information and Culture, Alhaji Yakubu Ahmed-BK, described the recognition as a historic endorsement of Governor Idris’s exemplary leadership, compassion and outstanding contributions to the development of the state.

He commended Leadership Newspapers for identifying and acknowledging the Governor’s achievements, expressing confidence that the recognition would further motivate the administration to consolidate its development agenda and deliver greater dividends of democracy.

The Commissioner reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to sustaining progress across all sectors and expressed optimism about the Governor’s political future and second-term ambition.

The recognition by Leadership Newspapers represents another significant acknowledgement of the Kebbi State Government’s development efforts under Governor Nasir Idris, particularly its commitment to purposeful leadership, institutional strengthening and people-centred governance.
