The Enugu State Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) John Paul Ani has commended Enugu State independent Electoral Commission (ENSIEC) for conducting a free, transparent and credible Local government election in Enugu State.

The NDC state Chairman made this commendation at Akpugo Ndiuno Uwani Akpugo in Nkanu West local government area in Enugu State on Saturday during the local government election.

Speaking to Journalists after casting his vote at his ward Amaetiti hall, polling unit 002 Ndiuno Uwani Akpugo, Ani said that the election process was peaceful, transparent and credible especially where he voted.

He further complained that he received reports from some party Chairmen in some local government where the conduct of some ENSIEC officials were not in tune with the tenace of democracy.

He however noted that as a political party, that they have done what they can do, by fielding their reports and calling the attention of the authorities. He also ask ENSIEC to verify the allegations in Aninri, Oji river local government and some parts of Ezeagu local government area.

According to him "we received reports that some NDC Chairmen and Faithfuls were not allowed access into the local government council Office. By law, every participating political party must be at the headquarters, were materials should be distributed to various wards and polling units.

"There are also some places that the materials did not even reach, especially in Oji river, Aninri and Ezeagu but in Nkanu West where I voted, materials reached every polling units. I ask ENSIEC to investigate this action and bring perpetrators to book, because ENSIEC as a commission should prove itself as the people's commission and not an arm of the ruling party APC.

"For us in NDC we are confident that we will win this election, because we have done our campaign, fielded credible candidates, counted the ballot in various polling units and have monitored the expertise because we have agents across all the polling units. After this excercise we will go to the local government where they will officially announce the results by the commission.

In Nkanu West local government where I come from and particularly Akpugo where I voted, like I said, the excercise here is peaceful, orderly and I commend ENSIEC for that" he said.
