The Northern Governors’ Spouses’ Forum (NGSF) held its second tri-annual meeting on 15–16 September 2026 at the Adamawa State Government House, Yola.

A communiqué issued on Wednesday after the meeting, which was chaired by the wife of the Gombe State governor, Hajiya Asma’u Inuwa Yahaya, said members reviewed the Forum’s activities, assessed progress, discussed issues affecting the region, and set out plans for future programmes.

The gathering was hosted by the wife of the Adamawa State governor, Hajiya Lami Ahmadu Fintiri. The Forum said it provided a platform to strengthen collaboration and advance work on the wellbeing and empowerment of women, children and other vulnerable groups.

The NGSF said it had concluded plans to implement a two-point agenda in Adamawa State. The first is the sinking of 20 boreholes. The second covers empowerment programmes for women, children and vulnerable persons.

Hajiya Yahaya said that after extensive deliberations, members adopted several resolutions aimed at strengthening the Forum’s work, improving collaboration and advancing its mandate.

In the resolutions, the Forum resolved to strengthen and expand collaboration with development partners, especially on the welfare, empowerment, protection and development of women and children across Northern Nigeria.

Ongoing projects: It resolved to sustain existing projects and ensure they are completed and have lasting impact.

The next meeting will be hosted by the North Central geopolitical zone. The date and venue will be communicated later.

Governor Fintiri pledges support

Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State pledged continued support for the Forum’s grassroots work.

He gave the assurance when he received members at Government House, Yola, during a courtesy visit led by Hajiya Asma’u Inuwa Yahaya. The visit formed part of the second tri-annual meeting, which drew spouses from the 19 northern states.

Fintiri commended the Forum’s humanitarian and development work, saying its interventions had reached vulnerable people and communities beyond government’s immediate reach.

He said making Nigeria a model for other countries required commitment from all stakeholders, and he assured the Forum of his administration’s readiness to partner with it. He also acknowledged the role governors’ wives play in supporting their husbands and advising on issues affecting women, children and other vulnerable groups.

He urged the Forum to use its deliberations to tackle poverty and other challenges facing women and children in Northern Nigeria, so as to improve livelihoods and contribute to national development.

End.
