The Sokoto State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Correspondents’ Chapel, has expressed profound grief over the death of one of its committed members, Mr Olugbunmi Adeniyi, publisher of The Guild Newspaper, who died in Abeokuta, Ogun State, after a brief illness.

Statement issued by

Musa Ubandawaki Secretary, NUJ Correspondents’ Chapel Sokoto State further stated that the death of Adeniyi has cast a pall of mourning over the journalism community in Sokoto State, where he was widely regarded as a dedicated professional whose commitment to journalism and active participation in union activities earned him the respect of his colleagues. His passing is a painful loss to the Chapel and the wider media fraternity.

Reacting to the sad development, Chairman of the Correspondents’ Chapel, Mr Ankeli Emmanuel, described the late Adeniyi as a committed and dedicated member whose contributions to the Chapel would remain indelible in the memories of his colleagues.

Emmanuel said Adeniyi’s death was a devastating blow to the Chapel, noting that the late journalist was not merely a member of the union but a colleague whose presence, professional dedication and sense of belonging strengthened the bonds of fellowship among journalists in the state.

The Chapel Chairman extend his heartfelt condolences to the deceased’s immediate family, associates, professional colleagues and members of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Sokoto State Chapter, where Adeniyi served as secretary before his death. He urged them to find comfort in the positive memories and professional legacy he left behind.

Adeniyi’s death is particularly painful to colleagues who shared professional responsibilities and union activities with him, as his departure has created a void that will be difficult to fill. The Chapel acknowledged that the loss of a colleague goes beyond the newsroom, leaving behind cherished relationships, shared experiences and memories that time alone cannot erase.

The Correspondents’ Chapel prayed to Almighty God to grant the deceased eternal rest, forgive his shortcomings and give his family, friends and the entire journalism community the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss. The Chapel also called on journalists to remain united in the face of grief and continue upholding the professional values for which the late Adeniyi stood.

While mourning this painful loss, the Chapel affirms that the memory of Adeniyi’s dedication and service will remain alive among his colleagues. May Almighty God grant his gentle soul eternal rest and comfort all those he left behind. Ameen.
