OPFY troops stop abduction attempt, rescue 16 victims in Zamfara, counter attack in Sokoto

Troops of Joint Task Force North West Operation FANSAN YAMMA recorded further operational successes in Zamfara and Sokoto States, foiling separate terrorist abduction attempts, rescuing 16 civilians and repelling a terrorist attack on 28 August 2026.

According to the statement, in the early hours of 28 August 2026, troops of Sector 2 responded swiftly to a distress call over an attempted terrorist attack on a community in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State. The terrorists, who attempted to abduct residents from the community, fled following the swift intervention of the troops. Four civilians were successfully rescued, while troops subsequently dominated the area to prevent further terrorist activity.

Later the same day, troops of Sector 2 responded to information on terrorist activities around Kwanoni Village in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State. On arrival, troops made contact with the terrorists who were attempting to abduct passengers travelling in 2 vehicles and engaged them in a firefight, forcing the terrorists to withdraw and abandon their intended victims. Consequently, all 12 passengers were rescued, while no casualty was recorded among the troops.

In a separate incident in Tambuwal Local Government Area of Sokoto State, terrorists launched an attack around Jabo Village. Troops responded decisively and engaged the terrorists with superior firepower, compelling them to withdraw in disarray. Two civilians who sustained gunshot wounds during the incident were promptly evacuated for medical attention, while troops continued to dominate the area to deny the terrorists freedom of action.

The successful rescue of the civilians and repulsion of the terrorist attack further demonstrate the determination and responsiveness of troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA in protecting lives and frustrating terrorist activities across the Joint Operations Area.
