The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) has reassured its commitment to continue pursuit stronger, fairer and more prosperous Nigerian oil and gas industry.
The President of PENGASSAN, Comrade (Engr.) Festus Osifo disclosed this on Wednesday in Abuja at the opening of the Three Day Energy and Labour Summit organised by the Association with a theme: "Strengthening Regulatory Frameworks as a Catalyst for Stability and Growth in Nigeria's Oil and Gas Industry".
He assured that PENGASSAN must remain a knowledge -driven, forward -looking, solutions -oriented and professionally responsible trade union, one capable of effectively representing its members, while simultaneously contributing to the growth, competitiveness and sustainability of the industry in which they work.
He noted that five years ago, the Visio of PENGASSAN Energy and Labour Summit (PEALS) which was conceived by the Central Working Committee and approved by the National Executive Council of the Association was to create a platform where labour, government, regulators, operators, investors and other stakeholders could interrogate the challenges confronting oil and gas industry and proffer practical solutions.
According to him,"Since its maiden edition in 2022, PEALS has grown beyond being an annual PENGASSAN event. We have examined issues ranging from gas development, downstream deregulation, energy transition, casualisation, energy security, divestments, artificial intelligence, crude oil theft, HSE, ESG and investment to incremental production."
He also said that their resolutions and communiques have consistently been presented to government, regulators, operators and other stakeholders, while some of their recommendations have shaped industry conversations, policies and operation decisions.
The PENGASSAN President who is also President of TUC observed that oil and gas is one of the most capital-intensive industries in the world and Nigeria possesses enormous crude oil and gas resources, but yet our citizens and industries continue to struggle with energy availability and affordability.
He said our frameworks must support domestic refining, gas processing and expansion of LPG, CNG and LNG infrastructures.
Comrade Osifo there called for stronger and more constructive collaboration among employers, labour and regulators. Saying that together,we must build an industry characterised by international best practices, occupational safety, skills development, responsible corporate governance and respect for collective bargaining.
"As we commence these three days, let us not merely identify problems. Let us propose solutions. Let us challenge assumptions. Let us identify what must change". He further urged.
