The Chief Medical Director (CMD) of Specialist Hospital, Sokoto, Dr. Attahiru Isa Sokoto, has dismissed claims alleging the absence of doctors at the hospital, describing the allegations as false and misleading.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the CMD said the management of the hospital had been alerted to a viral outcry by one Junaidu Abdullahi alleging that no doctor was available to attend to patients at the Outpatient Department (OPD) unit as of 9:16 a.m.

"We wish to state in clear terms that the said allegation is false, misleading and a gross misrepresentation of the reality on ground.

"At no time was the OPD unit left without medical personnel as doctors were on ground discharging their duties, attending to emergencies and conducting necessary ward rounds in line with standard hospital practice," the statement said.

"It is common knowledge that the OPD attends to hundreds of patients daily and due to high patient turnout, there may be minimal delays, but such delays can never be interpreted as absence of doctors or abandonment of patients.

"It is pertinent to recall the massive transformation of the premier hospital in the state by the incumbent APC-led administration of Governor Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto, who has invested a humongous amount of money in remodelling and revolutionizing the 24-hour operations of the hospital.

"This is evident in the area of provision of basic infrastructure, renovation of dilapidated ones as well as the routine provision of world-class modern hospital equipment and facilities.

"The administration has also recruited a myriad of qualified medical professionals and prioritizes training and retraining of staff both in Nigeria and abroad.

"We therefore urge members of the public to desist from spreading unverified information capable of causing panic and demoralizing our dedicated and hardworking medical personnel.

"We remain fully committed to protecting lives and delivering efficient healthcare services to the good people of Sokoto State and beyond."
