The Zamfara State Local Government Service Commission in collaboration with Gadabo Farms and General Enterprises Limited, has organized a 3-day training workshop for 42 agricultural Extension Officers, Directors, and Deputy Directors of Agriculture and natural resources across the fourteen local government areas in the State.

The training workshop, themed "Strengthening Extension Capacity on Best Agronomic Practices for Increased Productivity, Food Security and Reduction of Post-Harvest Losses in Cereals and Legumes," is aimed at reflecting the collective determination to equip
extension personnel with contemporary knowledge, practical skills, and innovative approaches necessary to address the challenges facing agricultural production in the communities.
Declaring the workshop open at a ceremony held at the commission Multipurpose Hall in Gusau, the State Capital, the Executive Chairman of the Commission, Alhaji Aminu Aliyu Mafara, who was represented by the Permanent Commissioner 2, Hon. Anas Iliyasu Birnin Sin, said that the presence demonstrated the commitment to improving agricultural productivity and enhancing the quality of extension services provided to the farmers at the grassroots level.
Aminu further said that the training is expected to enhance participants' understanding of improved agronomic practices, climate-smart agriculture, soil fertility management, pest and disease control, and proper harvesting techniques,
storage methods, and post-harvest management strategies, adding that these interventions are essential for increasing crop yields, minimizing losses, improving farmers' incomes, and ensuring sustainable food production across the State.
He urged all participants to actively engage in the sessions, share experiences, and take full advantage of the expertise that will be provided during the workshop, adding that the knowledge acquired here should be effectively transferred to farmers at the grassroots level for maximum impact and improved agricultural outcomes.
Mafara also said that the Zamfara State Local Government Services Commission remains committed to continuous human capital development and capacity building to improve service delivery and support government policies aimed at achieving agricultural transformation and rural development.
In his welcome address, the Secretary of the Commission Brr. Shafi'u Bukhari Kwatarkwashi, who was represented by the Director of the Administration, Alh. Muktar Sani Bukkuyum said that the Commission recognizes that agriculture remains a critical sector for economic growth, employment generation, poverty reduction, and food security in the State, adding that the effectiveness of agricultural extension services is fundamental to ensuring that farmers have access to modern farming technologies, improved agronomic practices, and innovative solutions to present agricultural challenges.
In his remarks, the Managing Director of Gadabo Farms and General Enterprises Limited, Alh. Aliyu Altine Shinkafi explained that the workshop was carefully designed to strengthen knowledge and practical skills in key areas such as improved crop production techniques, soil fertility management, and integrated pest management, harvesting, and storage practices, and post-harvest loss reduction strategies for cereals and legumes.
