Cross River State has secured the hosting rights to host up coming 2026 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Championship, scheduled for July 11–18, 2026, following significant investments in sports infrastructure by Governor Bassey Edet Otu.

 

Chairman of the Cross River State Sports Commission, Etta Lawrence Itanya, hinted this to journalists in calabar 

Etta Itanya applauded the governor's approval and release of funds for the renovation of the State Box and upgrades at the U.J. Esuene Stadium as key factors in winning the hosting bid.
